Week Seven in Art

NEWS:

I just added a video of Purple Dragon Day artists to the Dragon Day Page above in my blog. Take time to view the students and the works done on that day.

Kindergarten classes are still working on new drawing and coloring techniques. I traced each student’s hands in the shape of a snail. The book, Tiny Snail, is read to the classes to introduce the project. Next week, the students will create details on the snails and add details to the background.

First graders are still coloring their "Color Study" picture inspired by Kandinsky. The warm and cool color groups will be introduced for painting the remaining white areas of the picture.

Second graders are finishing the marker designs on their paper windsock Japanese fish. In October, the Japanese Gardens in Fort Worth will be having their annual Japanese Garden Festival. Your second grader would thoroughly enjoy seeing this venue.

Third graders will be learning about Grant Wood, an American Artist, and about his landscapes. The students will begin creating their Patriotic Landscape for the Veteran's Day Program.

Fourth graders are creating “Shrinky Dink” guitar pics this week. The lesson provided the students to see and hear how a guitar pic is used and handled a real pic. Next, each student had the opportunity to create a colorful design for the pic. This project will be finished a few weeks later due to the starting of the annual
“3-D Figure” sculpture project.

Family Art Fun

Rocking Fun Art:
You can create a drawing of a musical instrument on a 3x5 card. You may make your drawing a bIack and white piece or very colorful one. I will display the finished pieces in the art room hallway wall. Please put your name and homeroom teacher on it. I will post the finished pieces for all to see.

Family art activity: create a band of instruments. Be creative and have fun!!
